The American Friends of Beit Issie Shapiro raises funds and public awareness in the United States for Beit Issie Shapiro (BIS), Israel's leading organization furthering the rights, opportunities and services for people with intellectual or physical disabilities. Beit Issie Shapiro is a world leader in the development and provision of innovative therapies and services for children and helps over 30,000 people every year. Beit Issie Shapiro is also changing attitudes in society, advocating for better legislation, and sharing knowledge internationally through research and training.
In 2012, Beit Issie Shapiro was chosen to represent Israel and was granted Special Consultative Status on Disabilities to the UN's Economic and Social Council. As the leader in its field, BIS was the first Israeli disabilities organization to be given this recognition.
